Re: trailer lights

I would make sure all your grounds are good and clean (One at the tongue and then one at each light on the trailer.) Remember you wont get a good ground through rust or paint......the 2 or 3 times I have replaced all my lights and wiring, making good grunds was difficult because of that.

I would check that first and then proceed from there.

Re: trailer lights

If you turn OFF the truck lights, how can the trailer lights turn ON? No power -- no lights. If you are talking about BRAKE lights, that would be possible and is likely a ground problem as point out. The white wire from the trailer plug must be firmly attached to the trailer frame. Each trailer light must also have a good solid/clean ground to the trailer frame. The bolts that hold the light to the trailer make that connection.
