Trailer Lights working somewhat

My trailer lights will work if the vehicle is off. When the vehicle is running and you hit the brakes the lights completly go off. When you use the turn signal the correct turn signal works but the other pulses at the same time. I am being told that it is probably the ground. They are grounded to the trailer. I need to replace the plug which I am doing tonight. Do you all think it is just the groud and the plug? Thanks for the help.

I had the same problem. The ground wire on the truck side was broke in two. I put a splice connector on it and everything works fine now.

My truck has the factory hitch on it. I have to use the adapter for the boat trailer lights. I do not believe the wires for the truck are exposed.

Did you check your truck's fuse box?

To me it sounds like one of the live wires is exposed and touching the trailer.

if one of your hot wires were touching the trailer, your fuse would blow, if it didnt you have bigger problems, it should blow, you dont want the wires on your tow vehicle to burn up, you say that the lights are grounded to the trailer? whjat about to the truck? if you are depending on the ball to ground, its not good enough, there should be a white wire on you plug on the trailer that is grounded to the trailer frame, and on the truck side it should also be white and grounded

I think firehog is onto the problem. I had a poorly grounded wire to the trailer and it gave me all kinds of problems until I fixed it.

Just as previous posters have said. Make completely sure you have good ground connections! Best is to run a separate wire to your harness for the ground. Do not rely on the trailer frame as your ground. 1 bad ground will cause havoc on your electrical system.
