you could try the following say you built the trailer yourself and file for a homemade trailer title or reconstructed title. It's pretty simple you need the trailer dimensions and weight "I think" contact a notary they should be able to help you out.

I have had numerous problems with PA regarding trailer registration. One thing you can do is to stamp the serial number from the DE title onto the frame of the trailer and make a tracing of that. Then send it in or have a state inspection mechanic certify to the number stamped on the frame.

Kinda the same problem here. I bought a car trailer to tow my Jeep to the woods (for offroading) and they wanted a serial number. I couldn't find one on the trailer anywhere. I Told them that I built the trailer and they gave me 3 pieces of paper to fill out and I was on my way. I now have a 2002 trailer... Im from Jersey.

Had the same problem here in CA. the VIN# could not be read so the clerk ask if I wanted to Reg. it as a home built? I ask if it mattered and was told no. The cost is the same, I still find it funny that the DMV worrys over a $1200 trailer but the $18,000 boat is if little conserned to them.

along the same lines .... with customs and immigration involved.
I bought a boat and trailer in the U.S. and bought it back to Canada . the boat was okay but the trailer vin number is missing. I gave them a number I read off the trailer tongue but it doesn't match any vin numbers for that manufacturer . The model/manufacturer was Highlander and I can't find them anywhere. Anyone know of this brand ? if I get a number from a similar trailer I can stamp it onto the frame .Unfortunatly telling them it's a home-built won't cut it, since It's got a logo across the frame.

Rusty,

I believe Highlander was built buy ShoreLander as was Shore Station.

There located in Ida Grove, Iowa.

Just paint it-now it's home made.

About a year ago, a buddy of mine picked up a trailer in Michigan and brought it back to Indiana. The name was painted on the trailer but sticker with serial#,manufacturer, manufactuer date was missing.I got a piece of light gauge aluminum from work, cut it 2"x4"stamped ser#,manufactuer, manuf.date from the title, drilled hole on each side, and matching holes in frame, riveted it on frame.In. state Police oked it. ;)

Mth54-Pink at night sailors delight,Pink in the morning sailors take warning!
