I am looking to buy a trailer jack and I'm not sure what the weight rating means, I haven't had luck searching the web for an answer. I've seen 800, 1000, 1500 and 2000 lb models for boat trailers. Does the weight rating refer to the tongue weight that the jack can hold? I have a 21 foot Glasply on a 3500 lb rated trailer if that helps any (I'm not sure of the total weight of the loaded trailer). I'm sure heavier is better, but what would you recommend?

Also, I'm thinking about getting one of those swiveling trailer jacks to make life easier, would you recommend the snap ring style or the swivel bolt type jack? Any pros or cons to either design?

Thanks for the help! :)

The jack weight rating is the weight the jack is capable of supporting. Installed on the trailer it is tasked with supporting only the tongue weight. 800# is adequate. As for style its a matter of choice.
