Re: trailer hubs bearing .

If you havent already, I would pull the bearings and take a good look at them. Sounds like he had the castle nut on pretty loose and the wheel slop could harm the bearings..........If he left them that loose, I'm willing to bet he didnt pack them with grease at installation correctly either.

I'm not entirely sure that is what is causing the bearing buddies to come off though. Usually they are pretty tight and take a bit of wiggling with a mallet and wood block to loosen. Are you sure you have the right size? Did you mic the i.d. of the hub to get an exact measurement? I might be wrong, maybe the wheel slop is enough to do it, I'd just want to know for sure before I bought new ones again.

You have to look at those BB's every stop when you first get 'em on...as you have discovered, they can be off by an imperceptable amount, and they'll leave you first chance they get. Keep your rubber mallet in the truck so you can whack 'em. After they've been with you 50 or 60 miles without a whack, then you can count on 'em.

Or, I guess you could just wrap 'em with duct tape!

Re: trailer hubs bearing .

I have bearing buddie son my trailer.Last trip i was on I lost a wheel cause by lug studs that broke off. In the process, my buddy bearing was knocked off. Now that hub will not hold a buddy bearing. they will eventually fall off. I bought some Fulton versions and they stay on fine because they are slightly larger that the Buddy Bearing.

My hub opening must have gotten slightly enlarged by the wheel yanking it off. Maybe that is your situation as well.
