This trailer (which I am considering buying) has brakes and is rated to carry 3500 lbs. My Boston Whaler Outrage 21 weighs 1600 lbs. dry. Any reason this trailer would not be suitable to carry the Outrage? Also, can anyone clue me into a minimum length trailer I should be considering to tow a 21' boat? Thanks.

As for weight, add up the weights for

engine
electronics
batteries,
gear you will have in the boat,
full tank of gas
etc.

I can't see if the bunk brackets are adjustable, if they are not, you will need to replace them. You should add double length rollers on both cross bars.

As for legnth, measure hull, stern to bow eye and then measure from the rear bunk edge to bow stop. The transom should land at the end of the bunk.

Hope this helps.

Is there a side view of the trailer available?

Thanks for the reply. I do not have a side view. The bunk brackets are not adjustable but I figured I'd be replacing those if necessary and probably adding a second row on both sides as well and keel rollers on all cross members (Whalers should be trailered with the keel bearing the weight. ) I haven't yet taken any measurements but thanks to your tips I can do so and know what I need to measure. Thanks.

A couple of additional thoughts.

The two styles of trailers that Whaler recommend are bunks and bunks with keel rollers. All roller trailers are a big no no. While I have the bunks with keel rollers, you many want to consider all bunks.

Take a measurement of the tongue too. On my '87 Montauk and my '91 Outrage 17, both trailers had short tongues. If you will trailer it, consider replacing if it is too short. Did that to both of mine. Worth the $ to save your tow vehicle from getting dunked.
