Other than for Looks,...... You don't Need Anything covering the Bunks..........

Wood works Fine all by itself.......

I'm Sure that Wood, with plastic strips will Also work......

i use roller bunks, make loading so much easier, just be sure to hook the bow before you pull the trailer out of the water.

Re: Trailer Bunks

I just installed the plastic over existing carpet. Had the bunks been in need of replacement, I would have used treated wood and no carpet then install the plastic runners.

Really made a difference on my boat and it's light. Can imagine what they would do for a heavy one that you couldn't float the boat on or off.

Mark

Re: Trailer Bunks

my prob is with the ramps at the lakes i use.. they are either really flat or really steep.. so i was wnating them to make launching easier.. on the shallow ramps i have to get the bronco wheels in the water to the trailer half under water. and the steeper ramps the trailer goes too deep to get the on or off..

Re: Trailer Bunks

that's why i like the rolle bunks, the boat rolls on and off,, you don't drag it.

Re: Trailer Bunks

I have a 26'WA with bunk slicks (no carpet). These things are so slippery that a one hand push is all that's required to get it off the trailer and this is on a shallow angle launch.

On steep angle launches we have to let out the winch line. We can not disconect cable from the boat until it is in the water, to much tension on the hook as the boat it wants to slide off the bunks. A little to slippery at times :D
