I have an escort trailer model # wt20pab for towing my 19 ft boat.

It has 2*4 by 8' bunks that need to be replaced.

I would like to get the following equip ..

I've been told 2*6 by 8 pressure treated hard pine with marine carpet and stainless staples

Questions:

1 can I use galvinized staples?

2 were can I get bunk stiffeners?
the old ones are very rusty and not worth recovering. they are at the back below the 2*4 underneath attached directly to the bunk brackets

3 do I need to replace any of the other bunk braket hardware , it all seems in good order ?

Thanks

Re: trailer bunk parts

Intrepid, interesting that I saw your post. I just finished up for the day working on an Escort trailer for a 20' boat. I have replaced everything on the trailer as it was a piece of junk with only paint holding it together. I used Monel staples on the bunks and 2X6X10 Douglas Fir for the bunks. What are bunk stiffeners ? I have put way too much work in this trailer. Is your trailer open at the bottom where the cross members join the sides ? This is what caused my problems and I don't know why they would leave these openings as the water just sits in there rusting away.

Mike

Hi ICC,

these bunk stiffeners seem to be propriatry to escort (Bayliner ) trailers

of course in Qanada you can't get anything (besides beer) anyway

the bunk stiffener as my trailer defines it is a 2 inch square tube (actually its only got 3 sides)that is 30" long and used to reinforce the 2*4 that holds the boat (bunk) on the trailer.

The bS :p is at the back bolted to the rear connector to the trailer.

Mine is very rusty and I'd like to replace it with the bunk, unfortunaley none of the boat stores carry such a part here

maybe if I paid 2000 smackers for it then it would appear, then again I could just buy a new aluminum trailer for that ...

the ultimate throw away trailer :(

I know what part you are referring to and you could either get a metal fab shop to make up some new ones or have yours sandblasted and see if there is plenty of good metal left. Also, if you've been keeping your boat on the trailer most of it's life, I would stick with 2 x 4's as the boat have conformed to that shape and you don't want to form stress cracks from a new pressure point on the hull.
