I have a 1982 15 1/2 foot Bomber Bassmaster boat that rides on a Classic Mfg. trailer. The bunks on the trailer are 9 feet 6 inches long with 3 brackets on each side located at each crossbeam. The way my boat hull is made, it doesn't rest at all on the front part of the bunk, instead is on the keel roller. I want to get it up off the roller & re-do my bunks & was thinking of shortening them to just the 2 brackets on each side from the back which would make the bunks about 5 feet long. I know I may have to adjust the bow stop & maybe raise the bunks slightly & perhaps lower the keel roller down 1 hole. Do you think the 5 foot length bunks will support the boat OK. I think so, just wanted other's opinions.

Your idea is a sound one. Bunks supporting "air" are doing jusy that.

Bunks need to support about the last 2/3 to 1/2 of the hull.

The rollers should support about 25% of the weight, for your style boat.

My suggestion is to get the bunks set and then adjust the rollers with slight pressure from a floor jack.

The bunks supporting air might be helping you load when the trailer is angled to the boat.
