I just bought a small used bobcat. Now I'm searching for a used trailer. Some trailers have electric brakes, some have surge brakes. Which are better???

My truck is wired for electric so i can use either without additional wiring etc.

Just looking for some experienced opinions.

Thanks!

Personally I do not like the surge brakes that much. I don't like sloppy trailer feeling when starting and stopping. Much rather have the electric set up.

I prefer electric as well, we have a trencher and with all the bits and pieces we are looking at 15500 pounds, add the trailer BT26 and it is 6600 dry.
So total GVW is 22100 pounds and it (trailer) is rated at 26000 pounds.

Going to need the 5 ton to pull this one.

If its not a boat trailer then definitely go with electric. The advantage of surge brakes is that it can be towed by any vehicle so not necessary to have a controller in every vehicle. If being towed by only vehicles with a controller, its the way to go.
