trailer brake selection

After doing some research, I finally went with kodiak disc brakes for my trailer. While many people recommended championtrailer brakes. These brakes were made by Tiedown. Tiedown's rotor are too thin and have a tendency to warp. The Tiedown brake kits went for 399.00, Kodiak went for 416.00. The rotors are suppose to be much more thicker so they won't warp.

I also now have Kodiak discs after a set of Tie Down stainless discs bit the dust (the dis-similar metals caused them to die according to my trailer repair shop). Of course the Tie Downs (best thing out there at that time) were what he put on about 15 months previously to replace the drum brakes that came with the trailer when it was new. I got tired of replacing wheel cylinders so I switched to disc brakes. I actually ordered the trailer with disc brakes but was told a day or two after ordering the trailer (Aug 98) that they weren't offering discs because of all the problems they were having with disc brakes at the time. I've spent way too much money on trailer brakes. If I didn't need them (hard time stopping without them) I would've said the hell with them a long time ago.

Are they better than the Tie Down? What do you mean they bit the dust, they warped? How are Kodiak holding up?

Tie Down had problems a few years ago and almost closed up shop because of it. They decided to spend the money and improve the product. They now product one of the best brake disc systems available

We build only large trailers and that is all we use as well as torsion axles. Have had no probelms.
http://www.greatlakestrailers.com/
