Had a question and hope it isn’t a crazy one. Just to get me to the off season- could I just remove the outer nut and put a large washer on to keep the rim on the existing axle for when the existing bearings blow out? Again I only driving the trailer around the boat yard- maybe a mile or two a year. (I dry sail and keep it down there for the winter). Thanks.

if you can put some permatex#2 between the speedi sleeve and the rusty spindle, it may keep the water out to get you thru the season.

I wanted to circle back. It’s time for new axles and am ordering them from Eastern Marine (thanks!). Best to do this with the boat off the trailer I presume? Also, is it as easy as bending off the old u bolts and bolting new axles to the leaf springs? The springs are only 2 years old, so I don’t want to replace those if I don’t need to. Thanks.

Easiest to do it with boat off, can be done with it on, just harder
Yes, keep leak springs and should be no problem so long as your axle is similar as old one
