Re: Trailer axel repair

If you take it in to a decent sized dealer, either marine or trailer, or trailer parts store, they should be willing to measure, order, and install if you want.

Lots of options for spindles, bearings, hubs, lubrication systems, I would seek all the advice I could from an expert.

And don't forget about brakes. If you need a tandem axle trailer, you must likely need brakes.

Hi, Nivram.

You should be able to get all the info you need (and plenty more) at www.championtrailers.com.

Axles are usually measured from spring center to spring center for length, but there are a bunch of options in shape, spindle size, etc.

Good luck. :)

Re: Trailer axel repair

Thanks JB that was just the info I was looking for. Looking at their online catalog I was able to see just exactly I needed to measure.

Having rebuilt car engines I think I can actually tackle this project. Looking at the rusted bolts and other fasteners on the trailer, I will be having lots of fun. Would it be a good idea to use fresh Stainless Steel fasteners?

Thanks for everyone’s response.

Re: Trailer axel repair

I would replace all hardware..nuts bolts etc.... no point in keeping the old week links... not to mention a pain in the arse to put back on. If you go with that plan, you odn't have to worry about breaking them when they come off.

I'm not sure how stainless steel bolts are rated. I would just use grade 5 with antiseize on the threads.
