I am thinking about purchasing a 03 Chevy Trailblazer. I was wondering what you guys thought about the vehicle if you own one. It says it can pull 5800 lbs which is more than my old 98 Chevy Silverado. I have a 23 foot boat and want to make sure it can do it before i put that money down. Thanks!

Re: Trailblazer

Trenchfisherman it will probably pull it. I'm not sure how much your boat and all weighs or the design. If you can find out, you want a heavy duty cooling system and probably at least 373 gear ratio. 342 will do but it will strain, I do mean strain. I think the 03 has more HP than the 98 also. Is it a v8 or 6? v8 will be better for power.

Re: Trailblazer

The trailblazer should handle the towing fine. The I-6 is rated at 275 hp and the transmission is equipped with a tow/haul button. That button will optimize the shift points (electronic) to make towing easier. The switch does not prevent the transmission from going into OD. You may experiance a "differant" feel while towing due to the change in wheelbase from a 98 Silverado.

Bob

Re: Trailblazer

Trenchfishman, not trying to discourage you but I build these things every day and I have a friend that told me today he had the I-6 with a 16ft inboard and it struggled. It was the rear end he had. If your boat weight is close to tow weight and the truck has a 342 I wouldn't do it. They all have the tow/haul button, but that don't mean they have a tow package which includes heavy radiator and trans cooler. The v8 has 10hp more but I don't remember building any in 03. Not that you are looking at 05 V8 but it will have DOD.
