tracker overcharging then discharging

i have a 1994 bass tracker with a 40 hp. mercury. couple weks ago it was shohing it was over charging, sometimes it would jump back to normal.this week it started discharging, then next day battery was dead , was wandering volt regulator or ? sometimes hear a chattering noise under dash, dont know if its related to the problem, all conections seem to be tight

might be voltage reg
do you have a voltmeter

might be abble to borrow one not sure how to use. where is the voltage regulator located on this motor? would this be related to chattering under dash ? thanks for ur help

on the site mercurypartexpress.com u suggested parts diagram, couldnt find that or do u mean buy a manual?

u hit it right on the money, was the voltage regulator thanks alot. the tach. seem to quit workin at the same time any connection? if so where do i look on moter to find what controls tachometer.
