Hi all - I am located in Brisbane Australia and have been looking at getting a Tracker boat or the like and getting it shipped over here. I am looking at the Deep V models probably the 2011 TRACKER? Pro Guide? V-175 SC or the WT. I have one question, We require a Anchor onboard at all times here. Does anybody have an idea where or how to fit an Anchor well to these boats?
Thanks Crazy

The Anchor Mate works really well, it is a manual anchor crank, the line is on a spool and there si a twist knob on top to release the line, they work really well and yopu don't have to mess with the rope, just crank the handle an you are good and it keeps the anchor out of the way.

The next step up is a Minn Kota deck hand, same thing but it is electric adn is super handy, I run both on mine, electric up front and the manual in the rear.

You also can just have an anchor and a rope.

You also can just have an anchor and a rope.

The Danforth style is light weight and does a good holding job on most bottoms. A length of chain (3') attached to it really goes a long way in making a smaller Danforth hold really well and I would rather have the smaller anchor and chain as compared to an equal weight of larger anchor alone.

On that boat 5/16 inch should do nicely....don't need it for strength, but has added weight over a minimum diameter chain. You might find or build a covered box to put both in and keep the boat tidy.

The other thing, if you plan on using it is to have adequate slope to the anchor line. 3x to 10x (length of rope to depth of water) are the popular numbers for different boats on different waters/bottoms/weather conditions/usage type (Overnight camping or not) around here.

You should enjoy the boat!

Those boats are really too small for and anchor well.

Look for a boat with several storage lockers in the bow area and use one of them.

Or get an electric anchor winch and use that.

Re: Tracker Boats and Anchors

Hey - Thanks guys for the info. I have not seen the Deckhands before but they look great. In the Bay I often fish in there is a fair current. Do you think the Deckhand will hold given it does not have any chain on it?

I only tend to anchor now when fishing with the kids most of the fishing is with the bow mount electric or on the drift.

Really looking forward to getting the boat - will be a step up from what I have and a lot cheaper than over here.

Thanks again for the replies Crazy

I don't use any chain and my anchor hold fine and I river fish so I deal with current and wind, the trick is getting enough line out, I think the ratio is 4 to 1, or 4' of rope for every foot of depth.

I use a 15lb mushroom and it seems to work really well.
