Inevitable. It's folks like you and I that have kept them afloat until now but the next generation isn't so brand-loyal. Indeed, very sad but true.

I'm beyond buying american just because its american made. I used to only buy american but money is money and I need it to last. I drive a ponyota :D Pontiac Vibe that is just a Toyota Matrix with differant bumpers and roof rack. All of the drive train is toyota. Gotta get up on the quality before they are going to become stabile again. Thats business for ya.

I guess i drive a "Triscape"

It's really listed as an "Escape" by Ford, but is also labled as "Tribute" under the Mazda brand. Another one of them "Joint Venture" products.

This post reminds me... I'd better go make an appointment to get my 4th recall work done on my Silverado. Seems that the brakes don't work at speeds between 5-15 mph.

Yep, Stratus/Eclipse/Sebring are all the same thing. Soon, the lower model such as Neon will have Hyndai parts in them since Daimler Chrysler now also own Hyndai in addition to Mishubitshi. They will try to make as many products as possible using the same material, manufacturing method, tools, etc...to make more profit. If we debating about brand name in the future? it'll be just the name because the actual product ain't any different.

The one that makes me crazy is the 9-7X SAAB. Geez, they even talk about their heritage in the adds. It is a rebadged Trailblazer for !@#$'s sake!!! No turbo, no Swedes in sight!!!!

The names were funny, but the article is about being the largest producer of autos. Not buying the company (GM)or taking it over.

Yep, you got it. Chrysler/Mitsubishi is a wholly owned German (Daimler/MB) company. The same applies to Nissan-French government owned, KIA-South Korean, Hyundia-South Korean, etc.

As far as Toyota "taking over", true, as far as production and sales go. GM is ripe for a financial takeover. Only the employees will suffer, the Corp. will not. Only the employees will lose, ALL contributions to retirement funds will be evaporated. I'm not talking company contributions, I'm talking ALL (employee) contributions. A raw deal, by anyones book.

GM will "sell out" it's long time employees/retirees for any deal they can. No "takeover" company will accept the debts, GM has promised. My bets are on Toyota or Honda for a takeover bid. Nissan is too "strapped" and the Koreans can't, yet, generate that kind of credit.

The "American" company is dead, except for Microsoft, Google, and a couple other "high tech." outfits.

We can look our neighbors, in the face, and tell them they are worthless.

Freinds-yeah-right. They couldn't win with bombs and bullets, they do so by economic measures. We've killed ourselves, for the most part. (union demands-etc.)

Thae really sad part is that many people that "contributed", over and above, will lose EVERYTHING. But, who cares?
Sad. :(

Yeah. It reminded me too that my 2003 Dakota has 2 outstanding recalls to do... ball joints and wiper motor. :(

Our freinds  from the far east are not without their warts.

Toyota/Honda and Nissan quality has slipped exponentially, lately. LOOK IT UP. They, corporate, are not happy. Daimler/Chryler-MB have taken the largest hit. MB is no longer the "world standard". They are way down the list of quality manufacturers.

They blame it all on American worker attitude.

QC,

I beg to disagree. Komatsu is hot on their heals. KM can't offer the same support, but NOBODY cares. It's all bid into the "project price" which we all pay.

The "typical/sucfessful" contractor will not buy a CAT today, unless he/she is "old school".

They would rather hedge and roll the implenment price into the project.

KM's are about 1/2 to 2/3 the price of a CAT. But again, WHO CARES?

It still matters to contractors and anybody who actually holds onto the equipment. One shot jobs can use just about anything, but sites and users that require that support ultimately do care. But I though the point was an American Company that is thriving. CAT is at record profits, stock prices and they are on allocation for many of their products. I was there last Thursday and they are all smiles . . . BTW, I think they're more worried about Volvo than Komatsu.

Sorry for the hijack if this feels like one ;)

Re: Toyota to overtake GM?

QC,

Cat's "resurgance" has allot to do with our war efforts. Otherwise-solid government contracts.

Yes, they are thriving, however their prosperity has NOTHING to do with the way they have, or have not, changed the way they do business. Their union is stonger, than ever, and getting ready to really choke them.

As far an KM v. Volvo. I agree.

Volvo (not related to car) has really changed the US heavy truck industry-price wise. However, they have the same issue-no service, to speak of, in the equipment arena.

Volvo-Equipment, has NOTHING compared to KM and ZERO compared to CAT.

But agian, who cares?

We can build it with "Tonkas', or enslaved Republicans, as long as it's CHEAP!
