Wonder what the tow rating will be on this new Camaro? Will it have an available factory receiver hitch that is hidden from view? All I ask for a 2000 lbs tow capacity. I may have to sacrafice a Honda to the Automobile gods to ge my wish....

Hey, we're not talking about a Miata, here. This is 304hp, 3740lbs, 6 speed auto trans with cooler. Should be able to handle at least 1000 lbs without any problems. Even the 10 Mustang, weighing 300 lbs less with smaller brakes, is rated 1000 towing capacity.

I personally am not a fan of the Camaro, I like the new Challengers much better, however, if you are going to sink that kind of money into a CAR, why the h3ll would you tow anything at all with it?! You might as well just buy a $1000 truck or something.

The Camaro is less than $25K.

I wouldn't drive a $1000 truck farther than I wanted to push it home, let alone tow my boat which is worth more that the truck. Plus the additional expense of keeping a $1000 truck running, and the additional $500 year insurance, the cheap truck ends up costing thousands every year.

I need something reliable, gets better than 25mpg, looks good, fun to drive and I can commute to work in.

The Camaro is less than $25K? Oh, I thought they were in the 30's. Is that the base model? I don't really mind a cheap truck, I was suggesting if you could afford a new Camaro, why not have a cheap tow vehicle? The best scenario is: a minivan or small SUV for my old lady (as she likes taking EVERYONE with her) a Challenger for myself, and then a truck for towing the boat with. Right now, I have the large gas-guzzling SUV, and the company truck. Heck, I pay for that stupid SUV and maybe put fifty miles a month on it, I'm always in the company truck. The worst part is that my company truck is a Tacoma regular cab, so it doesn't really get along with my 6'3" frame too well.

Toyota matrix? Available with AWD and an official 1500 lb tow rating, the highest I know of for a "compact" vehicle. I might have bought one last year, but they won't let you have the 5-speed manual transmission and AWD at the same time.

Gotta be carefull about what you tow with any vehicle. There was a little Ranger and a huge 5th wheel that swayed, and nearly killed the owner earlier this week. I have an old unitbody Park Avenue with plenty of power, but i'm still nervous about towing my 15 footer. I hate tight turns because you have a higher center of gravity, and anything can happen.

I also remember one weekend where I saw a family of 7 adults, and the 25-30 footer pontoon boat, and this was a Pontiac Montanna minivan. YIKES!

You should be ok with that kind of trailer, or anything small really.

Re: Towing with '10 Camaro?

We have a 07 AWD Toyota Sienna that has a 3500lbs tow capacity. It tows either of my small boats under 2000 lbs with ease.

The Town Car and Mountaineer tow them fine too. The 97 Mountaineer has 230000 miles, and I have canceled the insurance because it won't pass emissions and has a retail value of about $900. The 98 Town Car is a great tow vehicle, but at 160000 miles, I am starting to worry about the air bag suspension blowing out during a tow. It also needs a tie rod or two and I'm sure its going to need more because the radiator, water pump, and many other parts are factory original. So both cars are soon to be history.

My days of buying new cars are probably over. Prefer to buy 2 years old to save a few bucks. Might get the Camaro in a couple of years. I custom ordered a '98 Camaro brand new back then. What a fabulous ride that was. Everyone who drove it was surprised that Camaros handled so great. And compared to prior years, they were like night and day. Back then, the Mustangs i drove were rattle traps. Everything made noise, especially the dash and doors. Mustangs look good to me now, but I think I can wait to buy a used Camaro.

The Chrysler LX cars (300, Challenger, Magnum) all have the hidden hitch option....and with a tranny cooler and new shocks they're rated 3500lbs. Last time I looked, one of these with a hemi made for a pretty cool car to drive around.

At least cooler than a minivan.:p

I downloaded the 2010 Camaro owners manual, and it has a 1000 lbs tow limit.

V-8 Camaro SS model $34,000 not including shipping or tax. I just looked it up and it seems the dealerships are pulling that same crap as they did on the Ford GT, 25% mark up right off the bat. that will tow alot of cabbage.

I dont know.....maybe its just because Im from montana, but people do not even attempt towing anything with a car around here. Just seems very odd to me.

What are you trying to tow that's only 1,000 lbs? The Camaro definitely has the balls and the brakes to tow like crazy, but of course the suspension wouldn't be up to the task.

10% tongue weight would be 100 pounds, so you are saying you can't haul around 100 pounds in the trunk of your average car without problems? (nevermind that loads that light usually don't have 10 percent tongue weight anyway!)

I routinely pull 1700 pounds or so with a car rated for 2000 pounds. Pulls it great! Fuel economy sucks though, 10 mph on the highway at 75 mph.

Re: Towing with '10 Camaro?

I was wondering if the '10 Camaro could tow my Capri. Spec says boat and motor weigh 1140 lbs. Add 60 lbs for the hard top, and 40 lbs for other additions, (and empty fuel tank) and it weighs 1240lbs. Now add the weight of the Escort OEM trailer... Care to guess its weight? I'm thinking about 300 lbs because I can move the trailer closer to the curb when the boat if off it by just picking up the back and stepping sidways (dragging one tire).

So maybe about 1600 lbs. Boat, motor and trailer.

With big trans cooler, bigger radiator, it could probably handle the tow, especially if trailer brakes were added.

But I doubt I would do it. Too bad its not rated 1800 or 2000 lbs.
