I am looking into and preparing to purchase a tahoe q5. Package weight is roughly 2800 pounds. Missouri doesn't seem to have weight restrictions requiring trailer brakes but I was wondering with this boat if it would be worth the 450 dollar option to get them anyways? I don't mind paying the money but I didn't know if it would be necessary. My tow vehicle is a 07 silverado ext. cab z71. Any advice would be appreciated.

you are 100% fool, if you do not get brakes. in a quick stop, that boat will turn that Chevy 180 degrees, without brakes. i tow 4800lbs. with brakes with a Surburban.

Tashadaddy has it right. I've had trilers both ways, won't have another one without brakes.

for $450 or whatever it was, do it no questions asked. At the very least, it will save the truck brakes from taking all the abuse and give you more control. You would be sooo glad you did in the long run.

Thanks guys, you confirmed what I was already thinking. I'm new to all of this. 204 escape, I'm in st louis and unfortunately dealing with Bass Pro. I have read many things about them with service and what not but unfortunately not any other dealerships around here for tahoes that arent tied to bass pro. Thanks all for the advice.

Another thing to consider....is a tandom axle trailer. I don't know if it's an option or not for your boat. But if you have to trailer the boat very far, a dual axle trailer will make it much easier. No more bouncing, swaying or anything else that goes along with a single axle trailer. And yes get the brakes.

I have an F-250 with the Powerstroke Diesel and I still wouldn't want to tow much over 1500lbs without brakes on the trailer. Peace of mind is much more important over the long term that $450.

On a side note, have you shopped around for boats? Compared Prices, options, and quality with other boats before deciding on a Tahoe? Been out in the water in other Boats?

Sea Ray, Wour Winns, and Regal all make reasonable priced boats in the same category as the one you are looking at. If you haven't you need to get them out on the water and compare performance, especially in rough/choppy water and wake. You might change your mind on what you buy. Not tryign to make the decision for you, or steer you away. Just make sure you make a comparision before making a decision to purcahse. You don't want to have to do this again in 2 years.
