I bought a used Merc TOP engine that I'm trying to connect the throttle and shift cables. I didn't see how they were connected before and it looks like the metal strap is broken. I can't find a parts breakdown that shows it either. So I have two problems, 1- I don't know how to attach them, and 2- the attaching strap is broken. Does anyone have a link to a picture of what it's supposed to look like?

Merc TOP doesn't tell us much. Which one? Give a little more info so you get the right advice and the right diagram, etc. A picture or two would help, too.

Sorry, it's a 1988 115 inline 6, (Tower of Power series). There's a little aluminum latch that looks like it's supposed to snap in place to hold the cables. But the latch doesn't look right, like part of it is broken off. There's also a separate plastic piece that appears to be designed to cup/hold both cables in alignment, while the latch locks them in place. I'll work on getting a halfway decent picture to upload.

Push the top link of the clamp toward the engine.

Continue pushing until it snaps / locks in place.

To release the clamp, push the little tab (touching the eraser) , push the tab toward the engine and lift it upward.
Don't use force, if it doesn't release, you are pushing the wrong direction.

Its a little awkward, but easy to do once you figure it out.
