Hi I have a 1982 115hp tower of power. A few years ago I noticed gas dripping out the screw on the bottom if the carb opening...although it is painted and a boat shop telling me there would be no reason for gas to come out of that screw...I removed it and put permashield fuel gasket on the threads and it stopped leaking. I knew this day would come... took it out of storage this year added new fuel started up first time after winter, but noticed the same fuel leak. Don't get me wrong when it's warm out I can have this motor turn over first time and it runs great, but I also had a 1973 115 HP start on fire at the boat launch 8 years ago...would really hate to see that again. Any advice? Also this start was in the driveway with muffs but if it's warm enough outside it will turn over in the lake first time too. I know these things just love fuel. I just don't want all of it dumping into the lake. I also know have duel coming out of the same brass screw on the carb below it. Not sure rebuilding carbs is the best option as it idles and runs like a champ

Well, the fix is likely dependent on what screw is leaking. I expect your motor to have sidebowl carbs. If so, there is a plug on the bottom of the carb, a main jet (hex) on the base of the carb bowl, possibly a backdraftjet (brass) on the carb cover, and some other "screws". Which is leaking?

The plug on the bottom of the carb is a taper fit, and needs to be tightened. The hex bolt should have a gasket. If the backdraft jet is leaking, you need to repair the carb with a new float, inlet needle and seat.

The floats on my 1984 115 occasionally would somehow wedge themselves in the fuel bowl. A few gentle love taps with a wrench or small hammer seemed to cure the problem
