Hi all,
Does anyone know how to fix Tough starting 2005 Honda 5 hp single 4 Stroke. When its cold pull cord kicks back in trying to tear our hands off.
Certainly feels like compression is good and starts well when warm although a little fussy when shifting (stalls when not given throttle immediately)
I called Honda dealer they mentioned TIMING ? which makes sense I guess ( im a wood butcher) Can I fix this myself- with Basic tune up and maintenance skills?
Motor normally trolls well and I dont want to dump problem onn someone else

Any good advice welcome thanks

You may find that the timing is fixed.--A sheared flywheel key will throw the timing out, but you say it trolls well.---- -No adjustment.-----Sounds like the carburetor needs cleaning.-----Do you run fuel out for storage so carburetor is empty ?-----How many hrs on it.----Have you looked into compression release ?

Hi Racerone, I certainly always attempt to run it dry for winter but I like your inputs better like compression release or flywheel issue!
Can a dirty carb cause a super hard pull with rippin snap back? Mechanic on phone mentioned possible coils , mags
My older 7.5 twin never pulled that cr**
Thanks I will post when we figure it out
