The ignition switch went out on my scooter. Now besides it being hard as hell to get to, I found out that the screws holding it on are this weird torx looking thing with a peg in the middle!!!! Can someone tell me what the hell that is and where to go for a wrench to remove it??? Any help is greatly appreciated!!! My poor bike is in pieces!!!!!

Those are called security torx screws. You can get the drivers and bits most anywhere.

Went through the same situation, any auto parts joint should have them.

If they dont, Depending on how small the torx screw is, You can take a dremel and a grinding bit and grind down that security peg.

Grainger has a kit that can be used on just about any security type fastener. They do sell just the torx security bits as well.

Ever notice where you see them a lot?
Public bathrooms so you don't get bored while on DUTY and don't disassemble the stalls..............

Usually the security torx screw are hardened. MANY times I have using a small screwdriver broken off the center pin. They usually break off clean. Then use a regular torx to ge the screw out.

I've also found an appropriately sized tiny common screwdriver will often serve as a great temporary tool to remove most torx screws.

If you are going to that much trouble to steal a scooter, wouldn't there be a much easier way?

If it means anything to you and it didn't to me I was told by an engineer that the reason these type of fasteners are used is because the things that are holding together are not meant to be dismantled ( per engineers point of view ) which is why it didn't mean much to me. Most all engineers are only concerned with putting things together not repairing them and or dissasembling them

I always wonder how the janitors work on those stalls, since the screws seems one way. How do you remove a one way screw?
