I recently saw an aluminum trailer with torsion axles. The dealer said they were better than leaf springs. Questions:

1. Are there disadvantages to using them?
2. Do they work equally well for light boats (my boat is a very light flats skiff, probably about 750 pounds with everything)?

Thanks.

Re: Torsion axles

No disadvantages to them as far as I have heard. Some advantages are, light weight, more axle travel and no noise.

The trailer will be matched to the boat weight to get optimal performance.

My $.02

On a single axle, I don't think you can beat the torsion system, especially those with replacable spindles.

On a dual axle, I like the leaf with equalizer for uniform load distribution and added suspension. Dual torsion axles need to have the trailer parallel to the ground (level) to divide the load equally between the two axles, and because the dual torsion suspension acts independently it's not quite as easy on the hull.

I like my torsion system trailer. Easy to rinse and no springs to rust.

I RUN A DUAL TORSION AXLE I FIND IT HAS LESS ROAD SHOCK TO THE HULL THAN SPRING RIDE AND PULLS ALOT BETTER I TRAILER MIND FROM FLORIDA TO MASS AND BACK TWICE A YEAR
