I pulled some brass plugs off my thermostat housing and intake manifold when cleaning/painting and was wondering what the ft/lbs range is for reinstalling them. Are there any specific values or a good general rule of thumb to use here?

Aren't those NPT threads?

If so, I put thread sealant on them and run them down hand tight.

like kagee said; put your hand on the head of the ratchet, and tighten, not on the handle.

Whew they sure weren't hand-tightened when i pulled them off that's for sure! I had to stomp on my ratchet handle to get them loose (sealed, painted over, probably overtightened, etc etc).

It's ok to use Teflon? tape when reinstalling these fittings isn't it? I've got a roll on hand.
