I have a 1974 25 hp. Evinrude that I am changing the thermostat. I can not find the torque value for the bolts on the thermostat housing cap. I have three manuals and have thoroughly examined them for the torque value with no luck. Does anyone know what torque value these bolts should be tightened to. I'm at my wits end here folks any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Torque value

84 to 106 in. lbs. (7 to 8.83 ft. lbs.) is what my manual says ... for my 1996 9.9 4-stroke Evinrude. That's the general spec for all "M6" bolts. My guess is that this would also work for your 1974 25hp motor.

If your bolts are larger "M8" bolts, use 15 to 17 ft. lbs.

Re: Torque value

My bolts have a 7/16 ths head on them. Would that be considered M8?

Re: Torque value

bankerjohn, thank you for the info. My manuals do list the torque value for M6 bolts. Again thank you very much.
