I know this is a very vague question, but i was wondering if anyone could give me an estimate of the top speed of a 1969 mercury outboard 1250 that is mounted on a 16 or 17 ft 1969 larson lapline tri-hull, i'm not sure of the length. I got this boat a couple of months ago with a lower unit problem and have someone working on it. It should be ready by spring time, i am just impatient and curious of its performance. thanks!

Re: top speed?

With a good sound motor properly setup in the ball park of 35 to 40 mph.

I was going to say 35 +/- depending on the plethora of variables.

Re: top speed?

That was one hot boat in 1969. I am thinking that the 125 HP Mercury was probably the most powerful stock outboard available in 1969. If it is running right and the boat is in decent shape it should easily top 35 mph. It will probably go fast enough to scare you on that tri-hull (not to mention beat the fillings out of your teeth)!
