Re: Tools

Been posted here many times, but how about a special screwdriver to remove the orfice plugs (fixed jets) on OMC/BRP carburetors? Start with a cheap screwdriver with a 3/16" round shank (think phillips), cut off the business end, and grind/file the end as shown. The secret is to keep the sides of the blade parallel. A tapered blade will tend to spread the soft brass jet and make it hard to get out. The short stubby one gets the jets out without removing the carb.

Re: Tools

Everybody needs a strap wrench to hold the flywheel when wrenching on the nut. But the ones in the store aren't big enough.

Make one from a piece of common 2x2 lumber and a nylon strap. Simply nail the strap to the wood and you have an instant tool. Make the lumber long enough to get some leverage and you can even tuck it under your arm for a "third hand". Don't be afraid of making the strap too long either. Make it big enough for the largest flywheels you will encounter and simply fold it back on itself for smaller ones as shown.

FR has the strap thing going. A nifty upgrade to his project is using an old serpentine belt from one of your vehicles. We're talking a bit-o-grip here. Take the upgrade further by drilling a small hole in the belt, and bolt to a 1 inch round hunk of hollow pipe.
