I need to change the seals in the lower unit of my 48 HP 94 Evinrude. However, after checking the price of some of the seal pullers and related tools I found the tools too expensive to buy for a one time job. Also the tools are too specialized to find in my local tool rental shops. I've been racking my brain trying to come up with a way to fabricate something that will do the job with only the tools that I have in my garage.
I need help. Most of you experts have the tools, but there must be some skilled shade tree/boat house machanics out there that ran into the same conclusions and came up with some innovative ways to remove the seals without the high cost tools. Any ideas would be appreciated.
PS This could be an interesting thread.

Hi fds and welcome!

Pop in at your local auto shop and see if they got a cheapo seal remover. What it amounts to is a handle with two hooks on the end (different radius) that is used to pull seals. Thing is, you have to be careful using the tool so you don't gouge the side of the seal hole or bend over the rim of where the seal goes in.

Some times a long screw driver can be used to knock the seals out from the opposite end of the piece.
