I took my 9 year old son bluegill fishing on Saturday to Patagonia Lake in Arizona.

We tied off on some reeds and fished with mealworms under a bobber.

Caught 14 total in about 2.5 hours.

We had a blast.

After catching 8 or so, a fish broke off a hook ! So I rebaited it and it broke off again. The bobber would shoot down rather than the normal action of slipping under and hoving at 5" down.

So.... I used a silver Kastmaster, put a mealworm on the treble hook, and caught the biggest 'gill I've ever seen! It was actually the size of a football! I thought it was a bass when I saw it in the water.

We squealed and had a great time with that big fish, we even caught us a boat! Someone had beached their boat and it was floating directly for us, we caught it, tied it off, and they came for it about an hour later.

Anyway, didn't get any pictures but we had a great time.

There's nothing like taking your kids fishing. My youngest is 23 now and all three spent many days fishing with me. They grow up soooooo fast. Always remember that when the kids go with you it is THEIR trip.--Keep makin' those memories.

Taking my granddaughter fishing is a riot. She loves it and will fish for quite a while before she gets bored, catching fish or not. My grandson, same age 7, could take one cast and if he doesn't catch something, he's done and if he catches something he's done after two casts. I try to get him to leave the worm in the water but he just can't. Hopefully as he matures he'll chill out a little bit.
