Re: tongue extention solution

I like how the builder of my trailer did the extendable tongue on mine. They used bigger square tubing attached to the trailer itself and then used regular tongue sized tubing to slide inside. not sure how they did the internal stop for it but there is one in there. Pull the bolt out and drive to the ramp and by the time you start backing down the trailer is about another 7 feet longer! Makes it easier to keep the trailer straight too because of the extra wheel base.

One modification I'd like to make is to drill a hole at its full extension to stop any chance of waves or whatnot pushing the trailer forward while loading.

This is definitely not for people who like to unhook their which strap and safety chain before backing down either, if the trailer decides to move forward (usually from braking) and then you hit the slope of the ramp, well boat on ramp comes to mind :D

I'm not even sure what brand it is. It might be custom made. Doesn't have normal trailer tires on it, they're the same size as my Durango tires and it sits pretty low compared to some of the other boat trailers I have seen. I'll go snap some pictures and come back and post em.

Let's see if this works... trying with Picasa

Extended (great for shallow ramps)

Two different shots of the trailer/boat (couldn't get a better shot in the garage with all the crap in the way)

(Picasa sucks for forum photos... guess I'll go to photobucket)

I like your trailer jack, too. :D

Heck, I use a Home Depot plastic bucket on my trailer. If I want to drain the bilge, I just put a concrete block on top of the bucket. Works great.

Sometimes, a guy's gotta be a redneck.

Re: tongue extention solution

rofl thanks, been meaning to buy a tongue jack for it but because I can lift it by hand onto my hitch I haven't seen the need yet. Might be why I need to add weight in the front of the boat to keep the thing from swaying while towing! :-O I put that under there so I could extend the tongue out, otherwise it sits right on the garage floor.

Might be going out fishing tomorrow, but after that I'm going to have a look at the trailer and see if I can move the wheels back any further to get the tongue weight correct.

Re: tongue extention solution

it looks like a load right trailer, that some one has customized. i would bet if you check the insert it has another set of holes in it to lock it in the extended postion,. if not would be easy enough to drill one. i hope that you are using hardened bolt thur the tongue.

Yup, it's a hardened bolt. It did have a pin through it before but had the clip holding it come off just as we got to the ramp one day. Figured a nice heavy secured bolt would be best especially because we hardly ever use the extension capabilities.

Also, there's no hole after it's been extended, but something I'll most likely do soon seeing as though my favorite lake is a little lower then normal this year.

Going to do some research on Load Right trailers too and see what I can find out, thanks for a starting point!!

Awesome idea Pony! The last one just had a clip through it that mysteriously fell out somehow. Thinking I'll grab two of em so I have one for the hitch receiver and one for the extension.

Hope others are getting ideas of extendable tongues from this, they really do help when you need to use em!
