I bought a 14' TomBoy boat. In the back corner, there's a tube with a drain plug in the top. What is this and what does it do?

:welcome: DavPat, great having you aboard... :thumb:

I presently am rebuilding a 1976 Tom Boy boat. It is a 14' tri-haul and it is converted from its original layout. But mine (bought used of course) didn't have such drains and holes. So I can't answer your questions. You really need to post some pictures for us to see what you are seeing and wanting to know about. You can post pictures by either selecting the attachment icon in the upper right-hand side of the Write Something box and then select attach from your computer where you have the pictures loaded. But mine you, if the pictures are too large, you will either have to use some type photo editor and reduce the size, OR make an account on photobucket and load them to that site and click the IMG (I think) from the right hand side of the picture and copy it and then paste it here. So try and post your boat pictures and we will help you out...

Thinking maybe a vent tube for under the deck . The plug would be in place while on the water to keep rain or whatever water out while in use ..
Just guessing ...

DavPat, welcome to the forum, it's always nice to see new people.

I have to admit I've been around all kinds of boats for 50+ years and I can honestly say I've never seen anything like that. Sure that isn't just a place were someone one placed a bilge drain plug because it was convenient?

Any signs there was once a livewell in that corner?

Well I can honestly state that my Tom Boy boat wasn't built with one of those anywhere in the hull. I did have a live well that was on the port side midway that used a side hole for water to enter and drain. But it has since been removed. But that tube looking thing is a mystery to me as well... Sorry I can't help out. Take some more shots and a little further back so we can see the hull a little more.
