Looking for direction in order to assist the mechanic with my current issue. I have a Tohotsu 9.8 purchased new in 2015. The motor started running rough, here are the details:
Starts just fine in both warm and cold weather after the initial warm up.
Runs fine until the engine warms up (10 to 30 minutes) and then is shut down (got to the fishing hole and using the trolling motor).
On start-up after trolling, the motor runs horribly at the "restart" position on the throttle.
The motor is rough, stalls, does not continue to run unless the throttle is feathered.

The mechanic has cleaned the carberator
I have replace the fuel bulb off the tank
Dumped the fuel and put in new twice

I am currently going to head for an authorized Tohatsu dealer/repair.

Any thoughts on what I am looking at here would be helpful. Some folks have said it is the fuel pump or needs a carburetor rebuild. I don't have a problem with either, I just don't want it to run fine in the shop and then crappy on the water. I loose use of the boat 2 to 3 weeks at a time. Thanks.

Many times a motor that acts up when it swarms Has a something that fails in the ignition or electronics.
One of the things to consider when buying any motor is if there is servicing dealer reasonably close.

After the restart (when it runs rough), can you get it to smooth out, or will it keep misbehaving until it completely cools down?

How about installing and testing a new set of spark plugs gapped to factory specs....

"I am currently going to head for an authorized Tohatsu dealer/repair.".....Best choice by far.

Defective cylinder? Check water pump. Engine will shut down automatically when temps run too high. Is the paint on the engine block discolored or peeling?

Incorrect. The 9.8 does not kill ignition if it overheats. Since it is in warranty, the best option is to have a dealer review the situation.
