I have a 2002 Tohastsu TLDI 70hp outboard. I have had this unit since new. When I purchased it I was told that the 2 stroke oil consumption would be high until it was run in. After many hours of use this motor is still consuming TWICE as much oil as it should be and the motor is very smoky at idle revs. I believe that the oil should be mixing with the fuel at a rate of 50:1 but it is using oil at a rate of in excess of 25:1. My Tohatsu dealer has stated that this is within the manufacturers tolerances, but I'm not convinced. Has anyone else dealt with this problem or have any ideas on related problems which may provide an answer.
