tohatsu tilt n trim

when i tilt up the motor it makes a scratchy almost like grinding noise when it goes up does this mean that the tnt motor is goin out can i do anything to prevent this?

It's hard to make any kind of diagnosis based on a description of a sound. Groaning is sometimes normal, but anything else is a sign of something wrong in either the trim or tilt section. I would urge you to run it by a dealer and let them listen to it.
