Hello All!

My Tohatsu 8 hp has an issue with going back into nuetral once the motor has started and put into reverse or forward.
You can see in this video. For now, unless you have a clear answer, ignore the motor kicking up when I go into forward. I think this could be cause it's going straight from Reverse to Foward.

Here is a youtube link to see the problem.

Looks like an MFS8A3. Something is horribly wrong if it kicks up like that; that would only happen in Reverse, and then only if the reverse lock did not engage. When did this start happening, and was there any recent work done to the motor? In Forward, the motor should pull down, not up.

Looks like you've really got something messed up in the shift linkage where it's going into rev when you're selecting either rev or fwd. As Paul noted, the reverse lock isn't engaging which prevents the motor from tilting.

If someone just did an impeller or had the lower unit off, I'd pull that off again and recheck how the shift linkage goes back together.
