Assuming you do not have powertrim on your engine:

The engine manual tilt lock system is designed to break loose if you hit something so that the engine will pop up. Otherwise you have to manually release the engine each time you want to tilt it up.

nice, Seeing as i have a inflatable RIB DO you think it will damage the transome, or motor if i just motor into the sand beach? Does the lock system only break loose at high amounts of pressure?

It only pops loose on a major impact...too keep from damaging the lower unit and transom. You do have a shallow water drive position you can put the engine into that will pop up on it's own if you ground. My best advice is to manually put the engine into shallow water drive as you approach the beach then let it come up on it's own.

No. Those little holes at the bottom of the engine clamp brackets are for engine angle too, but the shallow water drive bracket is not visible unless you look underneath, between the clamp brackets. You activate it by tilting the engine up about halfway and then leting it back down. Play with it and you will see how it operates.

pipe, if you have mis-placed your user manuals, you will find them here: http://www.tohatsu.com/tech_info/manuals.html
There is info there on shallow water drive running.

There are many situations where I boat that I don't lock the motor in place. You just have to be careful. Reverse only at idle speeds, and no sudden decrease in speed, otherwise the motor will raise up.

The shallow drive position is probably fine for your beaching situation. I have to watch it, when using that. Going slow and bumping a log or rock will raise the motor up a little, and then it tends to drop back down to the "normal" position, and lock. No so good in the river, where logs and rocks tend to team up against you. :)
