I am considering a 18hp Nissan/Tohatsu but see that the cu in rating is the same as the 15 hp. What is the difference in these motors?

3hp...

All manufacturers share blocks for similar-sized motors. The same block used to be used for their 9.9 as well.

If I am not mistaken, the Mercury 15 hp is also the same engine.
Do a search on these motors as I seem to recall some concerns about a low speed viabration that is
common on these engines.

The 15 and the 18 have different blocks(different porting)but, the cc are the same. They also have different jets. Vibration is usually not an issue unless the boat is very light.

Is there a 9.9 4 stroke nissan/To on the market? Is the cover interchangeable? I want to purchase the 18 but need to maintain the look of a 9.9. Can I swap covers? Or do I have to have stickers made.

Matt

The 9.8 4-stk is a different frame style, so the covers are not interchangeable. But, you can purchase the decals from the discontinued 9.9 that will fit the 18.

I have a 2004 18 HP 4-stroke Nissan, and it vibrates LESS than my friends 2005 Yamaha 25 HP 4-stroke.

There is some vibration, but no more than any other similar motor than I have seen.

I owned a 1997 15 HP Honda, and it was similar to the 18 HP nissan.

However, I also owned a 25 HP Honda, and the 25 HP Honda was much smoother, but it was a 3 cylinder, not 2 cylinder like the others.
