going to looking at a pontoon boat with a 40 hp tohatsu . 20 ft boat . don`t know the year of motor . but wanted to git some feed back on the motor . he said he just put a new carb and a water pump on it . haven`t got the year . will go look at it sat.wanted some feedbackas the quality and if the 40 will be big enough for the pontoon . can alwayes sale the motor as i have a 50 hp and a 70 hp i can put on it .

The Tohatsu 40HP motors have been made in 2 stroke and 4 stroke versions with 2 and 3 cylinders. A 2 cylinder motor may not have enough low end torque to be satisfying in this application.

he said it will push it 18 mph .just trying to git all the info i can befor i go over to look at it

40hp is very little on a 20ft boat, i'll put the 70hp on it for sure, 18mph is very slow .....

it got to 16 with my wife and me on it . i know a pontoon isent a speed deamon . just wan`t to not over load the motor

Is it a 40C? I might be interested. Is the compression good? Year? Tiller? electric start?

it is a 40C eletric start no hand tiller . it is single cable stering . don`t know the year. the boat is regustared as a 1988 # is 361A87861
