Tohatsu model number and year?

I just bought a 15HP Tohatsu 4 stroke that I would like to know what model and year it is. The silver tag on the cowling is unreadable. The fellow who sold it to me said it was a 2004 and looks like it might be in that range. Is there another way to identify it?

Could be that year, if not mistaken Tohatsu changed for dark grey around 2005 or 2006.

Is there any other place on the engine with numbers that would indentify year and model? Won't I need to know this info to order replacement parts in the future?

The serial number is stamped into the engine block.

The only number i see is on the side of a freeze plug. It is 11526

Only other numbers I see are torque numbers

Then the motor is prior to 2003, if the s/n is only 5 digits. However, year is unimportant for servicing. The critical thing is the exact model and serial. Post some photos and we may be able to help ID it.

If the s/n plate on the side of the motor is missing, then the # you found on the freeze plug is probably it. You can go to the Tohatsu website (tohatsu.com) and go to their Contact page. There's an option there to request the Model Year of a motor. Fill out the info and wait for a reply from them.

It looks like it's a 15B or B2.

I'm new to Tohatsu engines. First one I have owned. I am a Yamaha guy for the most part, so know very little about Tohatsu. What is the difference in the 15A, B, C, models? Are not most of the parts interchangable? Horsepower or efi being the difference.

15 is 15. The A, B, and C are model revisions, for things like emissions. The C is actually on a different block, similar to the 20. None of the 15's are EFI -- they are all carbed.

I thought as much. At least I think it should be that way. Then most of the parts are interchanagle, such as water pump and fuel pumps? Thanks guys for all the info. This site is a great resource.
