does anyone know how to unfasten the shift rod from the lower end.?

Welcome to Iboats,

If it's same as the 2 strokes versions, should have a metal round joint that holds both extremes of the shift rod in place, must remove the pin to free one side of the shift rod. Move shift lever to a position where the joint is fully visible so to remove pin much better. Need a punch tool for that.

You did not specify whether you have an A, B or C model. Regardless, drive the stainless roll pin out of the coupler. Full info is in the Factory service manual.
