Hi I have a 1993 Tohatsu M90a outboard. The steering has always been stiff since I have had it. Its not the cale or the tube. The steering on the engine was completely seized when I got it, with some heat and pumping grease into it freed up but never really easy enough. At one point, when I had the power head off, I put some heat down the centre of the midsection which freed it up quite a lot but when it cooled down it was better but still not right.
Now, the lower mounts have worn out on this outboard, so I think it is a good time to get it all apart, fix the mounts and sort this steering out properly.
Does anyone have a diagram of how the midsection goes together? Parts diagram would be perfect I'm guessing!
I would like to see this before I pull it apart!
Any other ideas for the freeing up the steering? I think I need to get it apart and clean all the old grease out and get any rust cleaned up. Open to any other tricks though!
Thanks.
