Firstly, if run in salt, any OB should be considered on its last legs after 10 years. Thing is that the Tohatsu motors tend to keep running long after their design life.
Then too, the 8A was discontinued decades ago, and did not share much with other motors, so when sub-contractors stopped making parts that were specific to it, no more were available.
If a Tohatsu part has a direct interchange to a different model, or has a superceded part number, that info is always updated. That's one of the really good things about Tohatsu.
The OP did not actually know when parts were discontinued, but was posting more than 20 years after the motor was NL made. He was making an assumption.
Try buying a SMEC (single-module engine controller) for a 1988 Dodge Dakota 3.9L. You'll get the same answer. NLA.
