I have a late 90s 70hp (M70B) motor, while attempting to remove the head to change the head gasket the head cracked. I've been looking around online trying to find a replacement without much luck, is there any other models that would have the same part that fits the M70B?

The bore of your engine is 74mm..... so is the 60hp so Im thinkin that head would fit too , as long as its about the same age . Usually a good eyeballing will show if it will fit ( get lots of pix if buying one remotely ), it will be either the same or wildly different . Some of these engines were sold as Mercurys so you may be able to find one of them
I would suggest that before you source parts get the head right off because you dont want a new head and then find the head bolts snap off .
One more thing .........how the #&%# did you manage to crack the head  ( pic please might be fixable depending on where its cracked ) .

Thanks for the response, good to know about the 60hp block same era should share parts. I assume the ones sold as mercs would of been the old “sea pro” two strokes?

One of the bolts snapped flush with the surface of the head, instead of welding on a nut and doing it right I thought that since that portion of the bolt is not threaded I could manage to get the head off but the corrosion was bad and while attempting to pry on the head it cracked near the broken bolt. I’ll take a pic next time I’m out in the garage.

Appreciate your reply, but that is not the correct head the M70B from the late 90s is a 3 cylinder. I know how to search eBay … there is not a direct match for sale on there for my motor currently, the 3 cylinder ones listed are for a newer model so the water jacket and thermostat location are different.
