Hello all from Ipswich, Australia

Is the water pipe that goes from the Powerhead to the water pump meant to be a single piece tube or two pieces? (See attached picture). When I finally removed the Lower Unit, that pipe was attached to the outlet of the water pump. The diagram on the service manual looks like it is one piece but I am at a loss how it could break.
If it is broken, does it mean removing the powerhead to install a new water pipe?
Appreciate any help. Cheers.

It should be a single piece. Might be time to use some neoprene tubing to join the pieces.

Yes, it's one single piece. To access and install a new water pick up tube will need to remove the crankcase from the pan, with middle leg removed, remove the engine base and install the new tube which is attached with 2 upper rubber neck seals under the base, It's a long work involved, will also need to buy new engine base, exhaust pipe & crankcase gaskets and 2 new rubber seals as well.

As an alternative join both sides with a neoprene or rubber tubing, the only down issue I see is that the broken internal water tube will sit higher inside middle leg and be difficult to access and install the tubing which must rest firm at both tube's sides for a tight fit...

Thanks so much for the reply guys. I like the idea of the rubber tubing as its a quicker fix than the second option. However, to cut a long story short, the motor seized on me while we are out in open sea over 12 months ago, so I thought I might have to rebuild the motor depending on any other issues I may encounter fixing the motor.
Thanks again for the replies guys, I really appreciate it.

You're welcome, The motor seized due to poor lubrication or overheating ? if the latter did you tried to re start it once cooled down ? An overheated motor will be much easier to be put back into operation...

I'm not too sure whether it was poor lubrication or over heating. After the incident, I left the boat sitting in the backyard for well over a year as I didn't know anything about boats. I trusted a friend who claimed he knew a lot about boats and advised me to get this one but suddenly was not around when the fit hit the shan. I take responsibility though that I should have made an effort to get to know the boat, that was my fault. I've spent almost 12 months reading this forum and others, bought the service manual to educate myself. Took 3 weeks to unseize the motor but I didn't push it. The motor turns over when started but I haven't tried with new spark plugs as work has been busy and I haven't had a chance to work on the boat. However from memory, there was not much water coming out of the telltale and there was water spitting out at the back exhaust port. Can't remember too well as it was a while ago.
Anyway, will keep going at it and more than likely ask more questions later on. Thanks again.

Good to know the motor seizure was solved, seems was an overheat condition. Next time remove plugs, lock motor fully up, squirt a small amout of (25:1) stroke oil/fuel ratio into each cilinder, let penetrate, wiggle flywheel back and forth in small increments to lube piston and rings, don't want them rubbing inside a dry cilinder.

As of now the motor was started whether on muffs, barrel, open water ? Proper time to check the impeller, thermostat and housing condition. That nice motor was run in fresh or salt water ? If in salt water surely has water passages obstructions that lessens the water flow passing through the crankcase and peeing porta as well. Let us know when with time to troubleshoot the cooling system properly.
