I am tired of fixing the tilt/trim switch on my throttle, and have been thinking about replacing it with a simple rocker switch mounted on the console. Is there anything that I should consider when installing this type of switch?

What goes wrong with the switch on the throttle?
With the switch on the console I found that I had to take my eyes of the water to operate the switch...not a good idea. I guess it depends where it is located and if you use it while you are moving.

Re: Tohatsu M60B Tilt Trim Switch

The boat that I bought was used (and abused). I have fixed a short in the switch and replaced the wires in the control box on several occassions and am tired of always having to open the control box in order to repair the wires. By mounting the tilt/trim on the console next to the throttle, it should not distract me should I need to trim the engine at higher speeds. As well, when operating bigger boats, the tilt/trim is often located separate from the throttle. As long as you are familiar with the layout of the switches prior to taking the boat out, it should not present a problem.

I was mainly concerned about wiring issues. It seems, that as long as I have a direct connection to the battery and then run to the solenoid from there, it should not be problem. Has anyone else tried this?

repairing the wires should really only be done once... If you have one hand on the throttle, one hand working the switch, where's your third hand for the steering wheel? thats kinda goofy. whatever works I guess though. good luck
