Hi,

What is the best way to get the top of the pump casing off? I got it hot enough to get fluid boiling around the shaft, tapped just below the lid with a hammer and tryed to get it lose with a home made scanner wrench. I used 1/4" bolts for the hole size. Is that the right size? The bolts just wore off and wouldn't fit any longer. I don't want to tear up the holes.

Any suggestions?

I was also told that a seal can be found to replace the one where the shaft goes in. Does anyone know who has them?

Thank you very much. Bob

First off. We do not have anything called a pump casing. Are you trying to get the trim piston rod assy out of the housing? If so, you use a special wrench to go into the holes on top of the piston ram assy. I have no idea where you could screw bolts into it or why you would. Secondly. No one, to the best of anyone's knowledge at Nissan/Tohatsu, has ever found a replacement seal for the top of the piston ram. It only comes as an assy. Thats not to say that you couldn't go to a business that does seals and wade through thousands of them and find one that might fit. Good Luck. If you do find one somewhere, please post it here and I will see to it that it goes out as a service note to every Nissan/Tohatsu dealer in the U.S.

Elvin,

The manual calls it a rod guide. I've had two mechanics say the seals are replaceable and to try a bearing company. I've only talked with them a couple of times so who knows for sure?

I wasn't trying to screw the bolts in, I just wanted something like a spanner wrench with the right size pins.

You aren't very encouraging but I like it when somebody tells it like it is.

If I do find one I would be happy to let you know.

Thank you.
