Tohatsu M50D - dribbling pee hole

I have a Tohatsu M50D (50HP) and I had the water pump replaced last summer - maybe 20 hours ago. The water coming out of the pee hole never was a fast, strong stream. It's just a really weak flow - even at full throttle. I'd say it would take a minute to pee out 1 cup of water. I've seen other outboards that had water shooting out of the pee hole. The water coming from the pee hole on my engine is just a very, very weak stream. If it came out much weaker it would be dripping. The engine doesn't overheat (as far as I can tell) but it seems like there should be a much sronger stream of water.

Any thoughts?

Also for Elvin-
I'm trying to find a side mount control box for this engine. Do you have one in stock?

Take a piece of wire and run it through the pee hole while the engine is running. Or, blow compressed air through it. 99 times out 100 it's just debris blocking it. We do have the OEM factory boxes.

..and I assume I can blow the compressed air back through the pee hole (where the water comes out)? I don't want to blow out any gaskets or anything.

I'll send an email to your company for a price on the control box. Is replacing a control box a DIY project for an "average" guy (limited skills)?

The air can be blown thru while it is running for best results. The peehole is a telltale and not a true indicator of actual cooling system function. You should be able to touch block with a wet finger.
An air nozzle with a rubber coned tip will allow the excess air to burp if needed.
The water lines should be blown backwards while the lower unit is off for service but it is sometimes forgotten.
The side mt. can be replaced fairly easy if you mark either the shift or throttle cable and remember which cable went on first. The Throttle always needs to be threaded almost to the end to get the throttle to settle back to idle properly.Check Full throttle by looking into the carb.It HAS to hit the idle stop in neutral or it will idle high.
The shift function test should yield the same "feel"+sound of gears meshing going both into forward as it does into reverse. This cable has the cable "slop" centered upon install at the motor end.
Goodluck.
Tim M

Thanks Tim

I took the engine to a shop. The repair guy took the thermostat out and cleaned it. He also said he drilled a small relief hole or bypass hole. It pees better now. Still not a strong stream of water but 2-3x's what it was.

As for the control box-
The reason I wanted to get a new one was I assumed there was a problem with it because the motor wouldn't shift into reverse. Plus, I took the box apart once before and it was dirty and looked like a piece of junk (pot metal, etc). It turns out a small pin had worked loose that holds a cable together back at the engine. This prevented the cable from going through a hole in the lower unit so the engine couldn't go into reverse. The repair guy found this problem in 30 seconds and fixed it. I don't need a new control box.

Thanks for your help too Elvin.
