I have a Tohatsu M40C outboard on our 1992 Forester Pontoon boat. I had a problem with getting full RPM's and top speed last year. With the season HOPEFULLY coming soon I need to ask once again for guidance. The tachometer that is called for this engine is obsolete. Will either the 3AC726400M or 3AD726400M tachometers work on this motor? I have seen posts that say yes, but Tohatsu's web site says that it will work on 2-Stroke Models: 40/50/60/70/90 hp w/ Oil Injection systems. I do not have oil Injection on this motor.
Thanks in advance for any and all help.

Re: Tohatsu M40C

If being a 2 strokes M40C, parts manual calls for 3B7-725301 (tach without oil lamp)

That obsolete tach has not been available for years. Use either the 3AC726400M or 3AD726400M. In order to run the modern tach on your motor, you will also need a tech sender unit, as used on a 25C, since the 40C does not have both the exciter and trigger coils.

Re: Tohatsu M40C

I thank you for your reply, and apologize for the delay. I tried to Google the tach sender unit, and come up with a post from you on another forum wherein you recommend 3P0726790M TACHOMETER SENDING UNIT $22.68. You go on to say that this will not be needed if the motor has a rope start. My motor has both, electric, and pull, and I do believe an alternator. Do I still need this TSU ??

Your motor is electric start. They all have rope; even the electrics. You need the sender.
