Tohatsu M12 oddball?

I bought an M12xxx 2 stroke Tohatsu dirt cheap. It looks to be in excellent condition, good compression, ignition etc, probably around a 1990. For some reason It didn't have a carburetor, so I installed a Mikuni temporaily. It runs well but its hard to tune the idle. I just made an adapter plate (and some other parts) to try a Johnson 9.9 carb to see how that works.

Anyway...I don't see any reference to an M12 motor anywhere I look. It is much heavier than my other 9.9's so I suspect it is a detuned version of a larger engine, as opposed to a tuned up 9.9. Does anyone know of this engine and what reputation does it have. If all is well I'll seek out the proper carburetor for it.

Thanks

It's a M15B...No carb parts available though and there are no known substitutes.
